 a City of Stone

A monthly email newsletter and a book containing the oral history of more than 1000 deceased as remembered by their ancestors support the new website.

Riverview Cemetery    Wilmington, Delaware
www.riverviewcem.com

A website for a Wilmington cemetery, listed on the National Register of Historic Places.

The Challenge

The Friends of Historic Riverview Cemetery have a large archive of oral history and photos from the 1800's which they wanted to share with the public, provide progress updates for their capital campaign and be able to take online donations, give information about burial sites, recruit volunteers and have a linked list of all veterans who are interred at Riverview.  A lot to include in one site!

The Solution

By carefully organizing the flow of the site and using slide shows and photo galleries to break up the large amount of text I was able to accomplish what seemed like an insurmountable task.

• History buffs can visit the history section, and read about Riverview's early beginnings. Click on the slide show in People to learn who is interred. And you can purchase a book which contains more than 1000 stories.

• Looking for an ancestor who was a veteran? The Veterans pages list 967 names, (some as far back as the Indian American War), their rank, unit, war served and date of passing. You can also find their burial location in the cemetery.

• Clicking on Volunteers gives an overview of what they've accomplished and some compelling tales.
• And if you are interested in a burial plot there is the map/fee page.
